Seeking Ruqya

You are currently viewing Seeking Ruqya

Unfortunately, some Muslims have neglected seeking ruqya, some may have never even thought about it and others may even look at it as nonsense. However, the true believer sees the benefit of ruqya healing for all types of sicknesses, including physical, spiritual, and psychological illnesses too. For indeed the book of Allah confirms this, it confirms the permissibility of seeking healing through Quranic recitation and the Prophet’s (ﷺ) established prayers.

And Allah says in Surah Fussilat, verse 44:

”… Say, It is, for those who believe, a guidance and cure…”

Surah Al-Israa, verse 82:

“And We send down of the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe…”

Through these verses, Allah informs us again and again that the Quran is a healing and a cure. So is there any wonder why we find many reports mentioning the practice of ruqya during the life of the Prophet (ﷺ).

One particular narration that stands out and signifies the importance and benefit of ruqya, is of Jibreel (alayhi salaam) the best of all angels, who came down and performed ruqya upon the Prophet (ﷺ) – the best of all creation.

Abu Sa’eed reported that Jibreel came to Allah’s Messenger (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: “O Muhammad, have you fallen ill?” Thereupon he said: “Yes.” Jibreel said: “In the name of Allah, I perform ruqya on you, from everything that would harm you, and from the evil of every person or envious eye, may Allah cure you. In the name of Allah, I perform ruqya on you.” (Muslim)

Therefore, how can we today ignore and neglect this effective method of healing, when the best of creations and the most beloved and closest of those to Allah utilized it.

And the above narration is just one account, but there are many more accounts reported of the Prophet (ﷺ) and his companions advising others to seek ruqya and performing it upon themselves and others.

For example, he (ﷺ) even advised his wife Aisha (RA), the mother of the believers to seek ruqya.

So my brothers and sisters implement ruqya upon yourselves and your families and reap the benefits by the permission of Allah.
